Touch A Life Update

PDFPrintE-mail

In mid-January, Pam Cope and other Touch A Life staff members traveled to Ghana to distribute laptops donated by New Tech High School in Coppel, TX.  The computers came from One Laptop Per Child, a non-profit organizations that believes in the power of uniting the communities through education and technology. They brought 11 computers to the Touch a Life home in Tema, Ghana. The 23 children were overwhelmed by their new gifts. Within the first hour of receiving them, they had learned to use all of the applications on the computers, had read the instruction pages, and had moved on to helping each other learn more about their new gadgets. The donations of laptops will help the children expand their education in a way they never thought possible. Their basic needs (clothing, food, shelter, and safety) have been met, and Touch A Life staff members are so excited for the opportunity to provide them with tools like the laptops to meet their educational and developmental needs. Thanks to the donations from New Tech and One Laptop Per Child. Touch A Life staffers are prepared to equip the children in their care to be the next generation of leaders and abolitionist.

The Ripple Effect

The vision for Kids in Crisis (USA) began in the heart of Gert Jonker, founder and visionary of Child in Crisis (South Africa) and the Bethany House Trust.  Gert was given a prophetic picture to see a “resource hub” established in the United States from which people and resources could be assembled and mobilized across continents to serve the children of the world, and through this participate in the establishment of the Kingdom of God among the nations and people groups touched.

That vision all but died in the years following its legal inception as The Child in Crisis Foundation (USA) in 2001.  The resurrection of this vision began in October 2005 at our USA leaders gathering which was attended by Gert Jonker and Craig Rowe of Community Ministries in Muldersdrift, South Africa.  From the spark created at those meetings, the vision was reignited and is very much alive today.

April 2006 marked the beginning of reestablishment of a Board of Directors, and it has been a steady, albeit slow process for KIC to move from being a legal entity to becoming a living, breathing organization.  April 2010 will prove to be another significant milestone in the life of KIC.  As a result of various meetings and discussions during the first quarter of 2010, culminating with a meeting of the Board during our recent USA leaders gathering in Carthage, KIC is poised to make significant strides in realizing the vision that was given to Gert nearly 10 years ago.  In hindsight, it has been the grace of God that also allowed us to participate in seeing many aspects of the vision realized even in those early formative years.

As we move forward, and as our impact to the nations grows, we never want to underestimate the impact that reaching one life can have.  The “ripple effect” from one life can be felt around the globe, and for generations to come.  History has proven this.

This is why we’d love for you to join us in our cause.  You might be surprised to find...when you "reach a child," you "change your world"
